SIAST Science graduates are highly sought after by employers.
The statistics speak for themselves – after graduation, 98% of Science graduates are employed; the average monthly salary is $3,192. Based on SIAST 2007 Graduate Employment Survey.
Science programs match opportunities and needs in the workplace. We stay in tune with those through program advisory committees (PACs). PACs are our eyes in the field. Committee members are leaders in their fields who provide insight on specific trends in bioscience technology, chemical technology and veterinary technology. They help SIAST keep pace with new technologies as well as with which old technologies are no longer used. They also know the latest skill requirements, employment demands and so on. In short, PACs ensure Science students graduate with up-to-date knowledge and skills. That’s a big edge in the job market.
We connect students and employers.
The success of our Science grads is rooted in SIAST’s practical, hands-on approach to learning. As a Science program student, you will spend almost as much time in the lab as you do in the classroom.
A work practicum is a key component of your program. The lab skills will look good on your resume, but it’s also a great opportunity to see what the job is really like. Practicums vary by program. BioScience Technology students might work in an agricultural or health services medical research lab. Chemical Technology students might find themselves in an environmental testing or mineral resource testing lab. Vet Techs might work in a local veterinarian office clinic or in a large animal operation livestock production.
Science program students also benefit from mentors, who help open doors to new opportunities. Through Student Employment Services, you will have access to career fairs, on-campus employer visits, program-specific job market opportunities, even job search tools.
Bet You Didn’t Know …
In collaboration with SIAST’s Office of Applied Research and Innovation, the Chemical Technology program is working with the Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC), as well as Saskatchewan’s mineral resource industries to develop opportunities for students in applied research.
"SIAST Chemical Technology grads are ready to hit the ground running in a highly dynamic, high volume industrial lab."
