SIAST helps with Telemiracle production
March 17, 2010
SIAST New Media Communications and Media Arts Production students, alumni and staff lent a helping hand at Telemiracle this year.
Twelve students and seven SIAST graduates volunteered their time to work on the show by operating cameras, boom microphones, switchboards and sound equipment.
Five instructors also helped out with the programming.
In total, SIAST donated more than 150 hours of volunteer time.
Students had the opportunity to experience the pressures of a live production, use state of the art technology and learn teamwork, said instructor Kevin Mahlberg, from SIAST Woodland Campus.
This year, Telemiracle raised $ 4 million to assist people with special needs and those who require assistance accessing medical treatment.
Telemiracle was started in 1977 and was first broadcast from the Centennial Auditorium in Saskatoon.
In its first year, it raised more than $1 million.
Now in its 34th year, the event is still going strong.
